EBSCO is the leading provider of research databases, e-journals, magazine subscriptions, e-books and discovery service to libraries of all kinds. These online databases are available in-house to Newbury Public Library patrons through cooperation with EBSCOhost and Newsbank.

Databases of adult interest

AcademicSearch Premier – Contains detailed information and full text articles from more than 4,600 journals, including nearly 3,900 scholarly titles. Included are popular magazines such as Consumer Reports, Newsweek, The Economist, Time, Sports Illustrated, and many others.

NoveList – The best database for fiction lovers to answer questions such as: What book should you read next? Which books comes next in the series you are reading? Who else writes stories like your favorite author? NoveList allows search by title, author, series, subject, or age level.

Newspaper Source – Cover-to-cover full text for more than 40 (U.S.) and international newspapers, plus 389 regional (U.S.) newspapers. In addition, full text television and radio news transcripts are also provided.

Consumer Health Complete – Contains everyday consumer health care information with convenient access to easily understandable health and medical information. including medical encyclopedias, popular reference books, and magazine articles.

ERIC – The Education Resource Information Center contains more than 1.3 million records and links to more than 323,000 full-text documents dating back to 1966.

Databases of student interest

Novelist K-8 – With its fun and intuitive interface, NoveList K-8 will be the resource you and your young readers turn to when looking for the next book to read. NoveList K-8 allows you to search for books by title, author, series, subject, or grade level.

TOPICSearch – Students in Grades 5-12 can search topics in current events, sports, medicine, education, environment, human rights, energy, and more. TOPICSearch contains full text for more than 150,961 articles from 475 diverse sources including international and regional newspapers, EBSCO’s unparalleled collection of periodicals, biographies, public opinion polls, book reviews, pamphlets, and government information.

Funk & Wagnall’s New World Encyclopedia – Provides more than 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.

MAS Ultra – School Edition – Designed specifically for high school libraries, this database contains full text for nearly 500 popular high school magazines. It also provides more than 360 full text reference books, 85,670 biographies, more than 107,000 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of more than 510,000 photos, maps and flags, color PDFs and expanded full text files (back to 1975) for key magazines.

Middle Search Plus – Provides full text for more than 140 popular middle school magazines. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is also available for thousands of biographies and historical essays. Middle Search Plus also contains 84,774 biographies, 105,786 primary source documents, and a School Image Collection of photos, maps and flags.

Primary Search – Provides full text for more than 70 popular magazines for elementary school research. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles) and full text information dates as far back as 1990.
